1. Roberta’s Pizza and Bakery
2. Paulie Gee’s
3. Artichoke’s Pizza
4. Prince Street Pizza
Pizza is naturally one of the more important aspects of living a true New York City lifestyle. This summer, there’s a few spots that need to be on your list, because they taste great, they feel great, and they objectively ARE great.
Roberta’s Pizza and Bakery
Some would say Roberta’s is what put Bushwick on the map, and that it is the most important brand in the pizza universe. Wowza. This charred pizza hits the spot, and the restaurant itself just has a lot of character. You can sit down in the restaurant. You can take it to go and eat in their outdoor bar courtyard. You can eat at their bakery. It’s THE perfect summertime spot. The Clintons have been here. I’ve been here. You should be here.
Paulie Gee himself (Paul Giannone) came over to our table to welcome me back and announce that I looked like an actress, so of course I will recommend this place. He is lovely, and his pizza is world-class. Let me rephrase: the pizza resurrects you. Their selection of pies is a little overwhelming–I’m pretty sure every pizza combination you have ever considered is on this menu, and you can bet your last buck I am putting it on my to-do list to try every last one of them, because those slices are goooood. I can recommend any pie with hollandaise sauce, let me tell you. This is a new favorite–tell Paulie Gee that the actress says hello, and she is still waiting on that free pizza.
Artichoke Basille’s Pizza
They even have one of these in LaGuardia Airport… Just go walk around.
This is a New York chain, but it’s one of the better ones. Their creamy slices are on another level. The vodka slice, the margarita slice, the crab slice–they’re all good, but it’s hard to say no to their famous artichoke slice to which they seem to choose preference when it comes to advertising. It moves around a little as you hold it, but in a good way. It’s expensive for a slice ($5.50), but I dare you to eat more than one and not clog your arteries. Trust me, you only need one of these guys. I recommend choosing a roommate whom is dating someone who works here. You will get free pizza and gain weight, and it’s great.
Prince Street Pizza
This might be the greasiest square of pizza I have encountered in NYC, so if that freaks you out, it’s time for you to go. The squares are named after different streets in NoLita, so isn’t that cute? Have yourself a Spicy Spring. Check out all the famous folks who have come here before you. Get in. Get out. Experience temporary happiness that will momentarily feel eternal. This is a good spot to grab on the go, or to go enjoy in a park.
Put a fork in it.
