The Place: 130 Franklin St.
Tribecca is lovely–it’s family centered, the streets are wider, yet there’s still that sense of character and homeyness you lose when the property value skyrockets so high. While Tribecca is not necessarily on the weekly destination hit-list, there are a couple places that really stand out in this neighborhood. Gotan is one of them.
Any spot with unlimited sparkling water on tap has my heart–let’s be real here.
The coffee is good. The people are better. And, it caters to the studying crowd, which is a huge plus. It’s not always easy to find a spot where you can unashamedly spread your belongings across a table. The tables are big here, so you don’t have to fight for elbow room. Also, there are outlets all over the place, and the wifi is reliable. You don’t take these things for granted in New York.
Tuna Avocado Poached Egg Salad ($12.50)
Everything I’ve tried here is good, but this tuna salad is noteworthy. Salads are usually mediocre, if we’re being completely honest. They just are. You get a head of lettuce and then maybe a green bean or piece of tomato. But this salad isn’t messing around.
You’ve got the perfect tuna to salad ratio here–enough of the toppings where you’re not going to have to suffer through a couple lonely lettuce bites (does that even make sense?). The basic idea is that they are not skimping on the extras, and these flavors are nice together.
Study some. Eat some. Drink some sparkling water.
Put a fork in it.
