The Budget: $8-$10
The Specs: Carob Acai
The Mood: Grandma’s Remodeled House
The Place: 49 Canal Street
You probably know by now I really appreciate cheap brunch, and that it is possible to find it without selling an organ. YAY!
Then I shall jump right in and introduce you to a friendly place called Dimes.
I like to think of Dimes as a neighborhood, not because it is, but because they have a restaurant, a market, and a deli all within a block from one another. Do they run this street? Well, no… I mean, it’s on Canal Street, but they have a lot of stores, okay?
You have all these little colorful tables scattered around and a 4-seat bar. It almost feels like you are in a vintage shop in SoCal, or so they say. It’s a laid-back place to drink some house-made almond milk. The proceeds of the restaurant go to help Syrian refugees.
Breakfast Sandwich ($8)
This is some good stuff. Scrambled eggs, avocado, cheddar cheese, pickled jalepenos, and some Dimes hot sauce. This sandwich will wake you up in the morning, in the best of ways possible.
Carob Acai ($10)
The waitress in the cute overalls said she eats this every morning, and it is understandable. Bananas, dates, cinnamon, coconut milk, almond butter, hemp, and buckwheat granola. That was a mouthful, and so was this bowl of morning goodness.
The teas, the juices, and the kombucha on tap are things I am prepared to come back to try. Dimes is relaxing, and I enjoyed it.
Put a fork in it.
