The Budget: $9
The Specs: Grilled Cheese
The Mood: Tiny box with happy people
The Place: 210 W 10th St, etc.
Now this place is just adorable. I have heard about it for some time, and almost passed by it on my walk home from work. Then I reevaluated my life, backtracked, and ended up sitting at a table by the window, running into some old friends, and making some new ones. That’s when I know I really love a place, when everyone is chatty and enjoying themselves. And when the food is good–you could say that is important, too.
I did not have my camera with me, so here is some free advertising for my malfunctioning iPhone 5.
This place is actually tiny. I mean, look at it. There are about six or seven tables in the whole restaurant (sorry, I was too busy enjoying myself to count.) Half the restaurant is the kitchen, which can only mean one thing: they have their priorities set straight. The emphasis is all on the food.
So what did I eat, you might ask? Let me tell you.
The Grilled Cheese ($9)
So what? I’ve been eating a lot of grilled cheese recently. Get over it. If it’s good, does it really matter? Well, let me tell you, this was phenomenal. The flavors are the perfect balance. I want to snuggle up next to this sandwich on every cold night for the rest of my life. Does that make you uncomfortable? Sorry.
This is a mix of cheddar and gouda cheese on a portugese muffin. You have the option to add tomato and bacon for no extra cost, so why would you not? The bacon was something else. I don’t know where it came from, and I don’t know where it went, but let me tell you, it was good.
Let me warn you. If you are coming here from brunch, it’s easy to rack up the bill. Brunch dishes averaged around $17. I’d stick with the lunch menu if you’re looking to stay within a budget. You’ll definitely have some options.
Put a fork in it.
