The Financial District is an up-and-coming neighborhood in Manhattan, especially since the completion of the Oculus and World Trade Center. It’s actually one of the fastest-growing residential areas in New York City. While it’s known for catering to bankers and financiers who want to grab lunch at a quick chain restaurant, there are a couple gems for the foodie that will not break the bank. I will give you the scoop on each restaurant individually, but here is my top three hit-list of places you need to try.
Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine
We’re talking authentic Cuban dishes, with a hefty side of green sauce, and of course, some plantains. You’ll want to grab a cup of water–this stuff is spicy! (Ruben’s Empanadas on Stone Street gave this place a run for its money as far as price goes, but as far as bang for your buck, this is the place to be!)
Thai Sliders & Co.
This place amazes me every time I stop by–are you sure it’s in the Financial District? It doesn’t seem to belong here, but in a good way. It has a fun and industrial atmosphere, and most importantly, it offers a tasty and affordable variety of phenomenal options, anywhere from stir fry to a garlic chili fish fillet slider (for $4?!).
This place is rated one of the top bagel places in New York City, and I will say, I have not been disappointed. There are unlimited options of what to put on your bread, whether you’re feeling a morning-style toasted cream cheese, or a BLT sandwich.
This week, we’ll dive into the good part–the FOOD!
